Residents receive support focused on teaching them skills and tools to maintain their wellness as well as support their work life balance and families. Maintaining a healthy wellness if paramount to preventing physician burnout and adding to longevity of career.

Maintaining a healthy wellness is required for maintaining the core competencies of good patient care and communication skills.

Physical Health

Removed unhealthy food options in conferences and replaced them with dietician approved healthy choices such as yogurt, fresh fruit, ect

Family Support Committee

Resident representatives who have young children are on the committee as well as attendings with young children.

This committee provides support and plans for things like maternity and paternity leave for residents, an illness in the family, a death in the family.

Focus on Research related to resident wellness and safety

Initiatives to research resident wellness and critically study resident safety

Initiatives to increase patient encounters and interactions while decreasing computer charting time.

Strategic hiring of 4 Advanced Practice Providers (APPS) to focus on covering areas the Residents needed


Lectures from the Academic Orthopaedic Consortium and Patrick Massey M.D., M.B.A. and Dr. Shane Barton M.D. on Resident Wellness and Physician Burnout.
